An ecclesiastical lawyer is responsible for dealing with canon law. Canon law dates back to the 16th century in Great Britain and is the body of laws and regulations produced or adopted by ecclesiastical authorities. Ecclesiastical lawyers will work on cases involving marriage, divorce, wills and defamation and other church related issues such as church property matters and discipline of the clergy.
