What you should expect from your specialist IP Recruitment Consultant

To avoid this, and to ensure that your recruitment consultant values you and your CV as highly as you do, demand the highest standards:

Insist that your CV is only sent out with your express consent

Keep a list of firms and / or companies which you have given consent to your consultant to send your CV to, along with dates

Give your consent only when you’re satisfied you’ve got enough information about the role (unbelievably we still hear stories of agents refusing to give candidates the name of the firm they’re proposing to send their CV to!)

Ask your consultant about the background to each role they discuss with you, what the nature of the caseload is, who you’d be working with, why they’re looking to recruit

Don’t settle for vague answers about digging around for more information once they’ve sent the CV: get them either to be specific, or insist on them coming back with more information before consenting to them sending the CV

Ask for feedback, not only from interviews but on your CV too

Ask about your consultant’s experience of dealing with particular firms – who they know there, who they’ve met, how much work they’ve done with them before

Demand the same from your consultant as your clients demand of you – ie a comprehensive, efficient, professional service which they rightly expect, and of which you are justifiably proud.
