Finding Yourself a Role

Finding a first or new position in the law, when you have very limited experience, can be very difficult and often frustrating.  We find that it is practically impossible for us to provide an effective service to Legal Executives or Paralegals who have less than six month's practical expertise.

Trainee roles do exist, but firms don’t need to pay an agency fee for someone who requires training.  We therefore recommend finding a role yourself with a targeted covering letter and well thought out CV.

When deciding which firms to approach there are a number of directories online which enable you to search location, size of firm and area of law which will all help make your approach more targeted.

Chambers and Partners

When approaching a firm we also recommend that you get the name of the person who deals with recruitment so that your CV arrives on the right desk!

There is a lot more information on this site about finding a role yourself, together with some general information on CV preparation and interview technique in our CareerZone section.

We hope the above gives you some encouragement, and also some useful hints as to applying for work and finding a role yourself.  It’s a matter of being persistent, totally flexible, and very organised in your approach.  You will find a role, so stay positive and keep applying.  The more experience you amass, then the more direct involvement an agency such as Sacco Mann can have in your job searches in the future, and we’re always pleased to deal with people again and again as their career develops.

We wish you all the very best with your job search.
