There are many different opportunities for those looking for their next residential conveyancing role and the variety between them allows you to choose the one that’s right for you and your work life balance. Some are very much client focused, which is great for those who enjoy interacting with their clients, whereas others contain very diverse, busy case loads so are ideal for those who want their days to be full of variety. There has been an increase in confidence in this industry due to a number of new build schemes, help to buy schemes and a general increase of movement in the housing market. This has resulted in a variety of roles with various types of firms, from small local practices, to multi-discipline national law firms. Whether you would like to become part of a national chain or a high street firm with local connections, there are plenty of opportunities for you to consider. Those working in smaller firms will be expected to create new business, or maintain and expand existing relationships, as these firms tend to be more connected to their local communities. The larger firms tend to attract work nationwide and therefore have a higher volume of work coming in. Due to the nature of the work conveyancers who like to be incentivised by targets and attractive bonus structures will suit the conveyancing specialists.

Those looking for junior positions, such as legal assistants, will be expected to have at least six months of experience and will be working to support property lawyers with their case loads before progressing to having their own files, (depending on the firm). Firms offer different avenues of progression and opportunities to help you develop, depending on their internal structure.

In more senior positions, you will need experience of running your own case load, and you could be working with larger property transactions or more complex matters and often be expected to get involved in client attraction and / or retention.
