Trade Mark Attorney Jobs

There are a number of different career options, such as working within a private practice, a law firm or in industry. Whatever the environment, the nature of the job typically involves dealing with trade mark, copyright and design matters including filing and prosecuting applications to register new trade marks, advising on the selection and availability of new trade marks, discussing the use and protection of trade marks, handling trade mark problems such as revocations and advising clients on trade mark infringement matters.

Possibly the most common training ground is that of the private practice, where Intellectual Property is at the heart of the firm and you can work alongside fellow professionals as well as Patent Attorneys, ensuring plenty of support from like-minded colleagues and plenty of opportunity for cross-selling between teams. Alternatively, IP / Trade Mark Attorney teams within law firms can often be sizeable, particularly within London, and this allows closer collaboration with specialist IP Solicitors and can provide greater exposure to contentious work and resulting litigation. Another popular option involves working within industry as part of an in-house IP team, which allows you effectively to report directly for one client with a more varied caseload, including advising on issues and areas beyond your immediate technical expertise – with no time recording! Benefits packages can frequently be more comprehensive in industry, including car, pension, private health, share options, stock units and gym membership etc, as well as flexible or part-time working.

Demand tends to fluctuate with the market, and although there are consistently jobs available, the nature of them will depend on the economic climate and the extent to which companies want to outsource to practices and law firms or keep it under one roof as a more predictable overhead.

Our regularly updated website should avoid you missing any exciting new jobs and we also frequently advertise new opportunities on the ITMA website. However, it is worth bearing in mind that we are regularly instructed on Attorney roles of a confidential nature, so being registered with us and being able to be contacted easily has never been more important. Often these types of Attorney jobs will not be advertised due to either client or internal sensitivities – for example a new influx of work or succession planning for impending retirements. Our commitment to providing the best possible service to our clients has resulted in us being the chosen recruitment partner for many companies and practices enabling us to alert those registered with us to any new opportunities as soon as they arise.
