Scotland Network Panel Discussion

I was delighted to be invited to speak at the Scotland network’s panel discussion on “Improving Access to the IP Industry” on Wednesday 29th January.

Kindly hosted by Murgitroyd in their Glasgow and Aberdeen offices, we were joined by Andrea Brewster, OBE and Lead Executive Officer of IP Inclusive, who provided an update from last week’s AGM and Diversity conference, as well as a summary of the results from the first IP Inclusive survey.

Also on the panel were Beth Marshall from Murgitroyds and IP Ability, who provided some valuable insight into this most recently established IP Inclusive group. This prompted the sharing of several examples of relatively straightforward reasonable adjustments that are being put in place to support IP Professionals either living with a disability or caring for a dependant with a disability.

Also joining the panel was Ellie Wilson, a Trainee IP Solicitor with Virtuoso Legal, who kindly shared her journey into the profession and the challenges she has had to face. This prompted a different discussion about how we can improve awareness of careers in IP and promote different routes to access them, both through higher and further education.
