‘In-House’ is a wide-ranging term that encompasses a variety of firms and companies outside of Private Practice across a diverse range of industries, such as; financial and business services, insurance, retail and wholesale, construction, local authority, charities and government organisations.
Rather than working in a Fee-Earning capacity, In-House Lawyers tend to provide legal services to internal stakeholders and will often work with people from different departments across the business such as Marketing, Sales and Finance. Commercial, Corporate, Data Protection and TMT are generally the most sought after skill-set however increasingly in-demand practice areas include Employment, Litigation, Conveyancing and Personal Injury, among others.
The route to working In-House can take a number of paths such as gaining experience as a Paralegal or Legal Executive, working In-House on secondment during a training contract or making the move into industry post-qualification. Relevant practice area experience will often be highly desired however our team of in-house specialists work closely with our clients and will be able to provide tailored advice depending on the role or area you are looking at.
