Patent and Trade Mark support is a fundamental element of the IP process and businesses are always on the look out for skilled individuals to join their expert IP teams. Patent and Trade Mark support jobs can most often be split into two separate areas; Secretaries and Administrators (however job titles can often include Paralegal or Formalities too).
The role of a Patent / Trade Mark secretary will be to work closely with their allocated few earner(s) and will usually involve audio and copy typing, managing fee earner diaries, arranging travel and accommodation for their fee earners business trips, as well as processing invoices and providing ad hoc administrative support.
The role of a Patent / Trade Mark Administrator will see them more involved with filing Patent and Trade Mark applications in the UK, Europe and overseas as well as handling the relevant formalities that go with the recording and renewals of Patent and Trade Marks, right up to the Patent or Trade Mark being granted. They will likely have more direct client contact and will also handle any assignments, changes of name or address, as well as preparing cost estimates for the client.
