Planning Solicitor Jobs

Planning Law has historically been an area of law seen in the large national players or small boutique planning practices. These niche firms have usually been the result of a planning team leaving a large firm or local authority.

Planning roles vary significantly in terms of how much contentious work that you deal with. Some will have more of an advisory nature supporting the property department but generally most roles will involve a mix of contentious and non contentious work.

Transform your career as a Planning Solicitor

We have seen a more recent trend for practice with a strong property department bringing in planning lawyers to work alongside the property team, providing an additional service to clients. This tends to be focused on the more senior end of the market for those with a small following to bring with them.

Local authority planning Lawyers are often keen to move into private practice. Whilst the experience gained in the public sector is of a very high quality some firms are nervous about the transition into a very client facing private practice team. That said most firms will be open minded for the right person, and there have been many success stories, particularly for those planning lawyers at the start of their careers.

Chartered Legal Executives are well represented in planning departments and there are also opportunities for paralegals with planning experience to move into supportive roles.

Experienced planning lawyers and paralegals are in demand and we expect the market to be busy in the months ahead. Speak to one of our experienced consultants about opportunities suitable for you or take a look at the vacancies we currently have available.
