Private client law is one of the few work streams that isn’t dictated by the economy, purely due to the very nature of the work itself. Unfortunately, planning for the future is a part of almost everybody’s life at some point or another, be it during the creation of a will or becoming a beneficiary. As such there is a huge level of variety to the work involved; it can include anything from simply writing a will through to tax and estate planning, applying to the Court of Protection, probate and even contentious probate. We have a wide range of roles available with both high-street and commercial firms.
Qualifications, although not essential, are helpful. These can include STEP, CTA and ACTAPS and if you haven’t achieved this yet many firms support employees to gain additional credentials. Amongst the many positive aspects of a role in this area generally is the high quality life balance it brings with it, however the role may also require home and out of hours visits. We handle vacancies at a variety of levels from recruiting paralegals, legal executives and newly qualified solicitors through to Partners and heads of departments.
Private client is very much a client focused industry, you will be working with different people every day, creating relationships and often dealing with difficult subject matters. You will need to be sensitive, intuitive, patient and have the ability to make complicated information easily accessible for those without legal knowledge. You will be part of a family’s life for a number of years and privy to personal information so nurturing these associations is very important.
