Biotech Patent Attorney

Are you a Biotech Patent Attorney keen to work with some of the most innovative organisations in the life sciences sector?

We have been instructed on a stellar opportunity for a part-qualified or fully qualified UK and/or European Patent Attorney who enjoys intellectually challenging work within a collaborative and forward-thinking, London based, IP practice.

You’ll complement an impressive team who advises pioneering biotechnology and pharmaceutical clients across a wide range of technologies, including therapeutics, diagnostics, molecular biology, genetic engineering, immunology, and platform technologies. You will work on commercially significant matters involving patent drafting, prosecution, opposition and appeal proceedings, and offer strategic IP advice to an array of genuinely interesting and high-profile clients.

The role

Day to day you’ll manage a varied Patent portfolio of biotechnology matters while working closely with experienced colleagues across the wider London practice. This role offers exposure to complex and high-profile cases, including contentious EPO work and multi-jurisdictional matters.

Responsibilities include:

  • Drafting and prosecuting European and international patent applications
  • Advising clients on patent strategy and portfolio development
  • Supporting opposition and appeal proceedings before the EPO
  • Collaborating with colleagues across technical and legal disciplines
  • Contributing to client relationships and business development activities
  • Mentoring and supporting junior team members where appropriate

Your skillset

  • Partly or recently qualified as a UK and/or European Patent Attorney
  • A strong academic background in biotechnology or a related life sciences discipline
  • Experience handling EPO and PCT patent applications
  • Knowledge of biotechnology-related patent practice, including sequence listings and biological material requirements
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong organisational abilities and attention to detail
  • A collaborative approach and enthusiasm for working within a team environment
  • An interest in developing long-term client relationships
