An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced public sector lawyer to join a highly regarded Government & Public Sector team within a leading national law firm.
The team advises government departments, Mayoral Combined Authorities, local authorities and private sector organisations on a wide range of complex public sector matters, with particular strength in Public Procurement, Subsidy Control, grant funding and regeneration projects.
This is a senior role offering the opportunity to take ownership of complex matters, work closely with clients and contribute to the continued growth of the practice. The firm is open to experienced Associates and Senior Associates, as well as high-performing Senior Associates looking to take their first step into a Legal Director position.
The Work will include:
- Advising public and private sector clients on Public Procurement, Subsidy Control, grant funding and commercial matters.
- Drafting and negotiating complex commercial contracts, grant funding agreements and procurement documentation.
- Advising on the establishment and delivery of grant programmes and public funding arrangements.
- Working directly with clients and developing strong, long-term relationships.
- Managing a varied caseload of complex and high-value public sector matters.
- Working collaboratively with colleagues across the wider national Commercial and Government & Public Sector teams.
- Providing practical, commercially focused advice that reflects clients’ wider policy and delivery objectives.
- Keeping up to date with developments in Public Procurement, Subsidy Control and public funding.
- Supporting business development and identifying opportunities to develop existing and new client relationships.
- Sharing knowledge and contributing to the development of the wider team.
- Mentoring and supporting more junior lawyers.
About You
We’re looking for a solicitor with:
- Significant experience advising on public sector and/or commercial matters.
- Strong experience in areas such as Public Procurement, Subsidy Control, grant funding or grant programmes.
- An understanding of how central and local government and other public bodies operate.
- Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills.
- Strong commercial awareness and the ability to understand clients’ wider objectives.
- The confidence to take ownership of complex matters and manage client relationships.
- A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with colleagues across a national team.
- A proactive attitude towards business development and building client relationships.
- The ambition to contribute to the continued growth of the practice.
Previous in-house experience within the public sector or Government Legal Department would be advantageous but is not essential.
