Senior In-house Patent Attorney

The Offering

Sought is a highly experienced and commercially minded Senior In-house Patent Attorney to lead the global patent litigation and offensive IP strategy of an impressive multinational FMCG company. This is a high-impact role at the intersection of legal expertise, innovation, and business strategy.

You will play a key part in shaping and executing global patent litigation strategy, protecting and maximising the value of the intellectual property portfolio, and supporting critical business decisions at the highest level.

What You’ll be Doing

  • Lead and oversee global patent litigation matters, including high-value, multi-jurisdictional disputes
  • Develop and execute offensive and defensive patent strategies aligned to commercial objectives
  • Manage and coordinate external law firms and patent attorneys worldwide, ensuring consistency and efficiency
  • Provide clear, commercially focused legal advice to senior stakeholders and leadership teams
  • Drive strategy for the extensive patent portfolio, including identifying opportunities to maximise value
  • Lead a specialist team focused on identifying third-party infringement risks and opportunities
  • Oversee key agreements and arbitration matters related to patent settlements
  • Build strong relationships across R&D, legal, and commercial teams to influence business outcomes
  • Promote best practice in risk management, compliance, and IP governance globally

About You

Experience

  • Significant experience managing complex global patent litigation
  • Strong commercial awareness, ideally within FMCG or innovation-driven industries
  • Proven leadership experience managing teams and external counsel
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategies that unlock commercial value from IP

Skills and Expertise

  • Deep expertise in patent law and litigation (Europe essential; US and Japan advantageous)
  • Ability to analyse complex legal and technical issues and translate them into business-focused advice
  • Confidence engaging with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams
  • Strong drafting skills, including settlement agreements and licensing arrangements
  • Ability to understand broad technical subject matters

Qualifications

  • Qualified UK and European Patent Attorney or a qualified Lawyer with extensive patent experience
  • Circa 10+ years’ post-qualification experience in patent law, including litigation. Candidates from any technical background will be warmly considered
