Senior Inquests Solicitor - Public & Private Healthcare

Senior Inquests Solicitor | Liverpool | Award-Winning Team

Are you an experienced Solicitor specialising in Inquests and Healthcare Regulatory work, with strong advocacy experience, and looking for your next career move?

This is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded Healthcare & Public Law team, working on complex and high-profile inquest matters across the healthcare and public sectors. The successful candidate will join a supportive and collaborative environment, with genuine opportunities for progression, including a potential pathway to partnership.

The Firm

The firm has a large and well-established Healthcare offering, with a substantial specialist team and a strong presence across the North West. The Healthcare & Public Law team handles a broad range of complex and sensitive matters for NHS bodies, healthcare organisations, public sector institutions and other clients.

The Liverpool team has an excellent reputation for its work on high-profile and challenging cases, providing lawyers with the opportunity to work on matters that are both legally complex and nationally significant.

The Role

This is a senior-level Inquests opportunity, ideally suited to someone who has already established themselves in this area and is looking to take the next step in their career.

You will advise and represent institutional clients across a varied and high-profile caseload, including matters involving:

  • Deaths in custody and prison deaths
  • Suicide cases
  • Deaths within inpatient mental health units
  • Complex healthcare-related inquests
  • Sensitive and high-profile matters involving public bodies and healthcare organisations

The role will involve significant advocacy, with the successful candidate expected to have experience independently representing clients in inquest proceedings and appearing in court.

The majority of work will be across the Merseyside area, with the nature of the role increasingly requiring attendance at in-person hearings as courts move away from remote Teams hearings.

The Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a senior Solicitor with a strong background in Inquests, ideally gained within a healthcare, public law or regulatory environment.

You will need:

  • Significant experience handling inquest matters
  • Strong and demonstrable advocacy experience
  • Experience representing institutional clients, ideally within healthcare or the public sector
  • The ability to manage complex and sensitive cases with a high degree of autonomy
  • Excellent communication and client management skills
  • The confidence to deal with high-profile and challenging matters
  • Experience of Court of Protection and/or Inherent Jurisdiction work would be desirable, although this is not essential.

The team would also be interested in candidates who have traditionally acted on behalf of families and are now looking to move across to representing institutions. Equally, candidates with strong advocacy experience from another area of law, such as Public Inquiries, may be considered where they can demonstrate transferable advocacy skills and the ability to develop their healthcare/inquests expertise.
