A highly regarded London based intellectual property firm is looking to recruit a part-qualified or recently qualified Tech Patent Attorney to join its expanding Physics & Engineering practice in London.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a part-qualified, finals standard or recently qualified Tech Patent Attorney seeking genuine client exposure, high-quality drafting work and involvement in commercially strategic patent matters across a broad range of technologies. The firm continues to win significant new instructions and looks forward to welcoming a new member of the team!
The successful candidate will likely work on technologies including:
- Optics and photonics
- Telecommunications
- Software
- Electronics
- Emerging technologies and complex engineering innovations
Unlike more process-driven environments, this role offers substantial direct client interaction from an early stage. You will be encouraged to become embedded with clients, visiting them on-site, contributing strategically to projects and developing trusted advisory relationships.
You can expect to gain exposure to:
- Patent drafting and prosecution
- Strategic IP advisory work
- Freedom-to-operate and infringement analysis
- Complex project-based portfolio work
- Client-facing strategy discussions and innovation support
- Some EPO opposition and appeal work
The team is particularly attractive for Tech Patent Attorneys looking to move away from a “bill bill bill” culture. The firm prides itself on being collaborative, non-sales-driven and genuinely supportive, allowing attorneys to focus on delivering high-quality client work and developing their skills both technically and commercially.
The environment is sociable and team-oriented, with regular organised events, and networking.
Additional highlights include:
- Excellent study and qualification support
- Strong mentoring from highly experienced senior attorneys
- High levels of responsibility and client contact early in your career
- A healthy work/life balance
- Hybrid working, with trainees expected to spend more time in the office to support development and collaboration
- Genuine long-term progression opportunities within a growing practice
Candidates should ideally have:
- A strong academic background in Physics, Engineering, Electronics, Telecommunications, Computer Science or a related discipline
- Part qualification or recently qualified status as a UK and/or European Patent Attorney
- Strong drafting ability and communication skills
- A commercial mindset and enthusiasm for direct client engagement
