Legal Sector Salary Reviews - What Can You Expect in 2025?

5

It’s that time of year again – salary review season is approaching, and many law firms are beginning to assess remuneration across their teams. Understandably, we’re hearing from a growing number of solicitors who are keen to understand what they should expect, whether their current offer is competitive, and how their earnings align with the wider market.

Over recent years, we’ve seen significant salary increases across commercial law firms, particularly driven by the sharp rise in Newly Qualified (NQ) Solicitor salaries at international firms. These uplifts have created a ripple effect, pushing up pay for more senior lawyers in order to maintain sensible differentials and retain talent. This upward trend hasn’t been limited to the international players. National and regional firms have also raised their salary bands in response, striving to remain competitive and attractive, especially for those who value quality work and a balanced lifestyle.

What Should We Expect in 2025?

While it's still early days, our conversations with firms suggest that salary increases are likely to continue, but at a more measured pace than we've seen in previous years. Rather than blanket increases, we anticipate firms will take a more targeted approach, reserving the most significant uplifts for individuals who are consistently exceeding expectations.

It won’t be until late summer that we’ll have a clear, sector-wide picture. However, if you're currently considering your options or would like a better understanding of where your salary stands in comparison to the market, we’re always here to help.
