Andrew Purdy - Managing Consultant

I arrived in the world of legal recruitment straight after finishing university in 2012, joining Sacco Mann about a week after my final exam! I initially thought I might pursue a legal career on completion of my law degree however, I was never sure it properly aligned with my skills and interests. I really enjoy getting to know people (which is professional speak for I like to talk…) and so recruitment seemed like an obvious choice. I had a particular interest in legal recruitment, not just because of my law degree, but because it’s a professional industry, is ever changing and there is a huge variety of law firms to engage with.
 
I joined Sacco Mann as a Resourcer in the Private Practice Team in Leeds and the rest they say is history. I am now a Senior Manager and split my time between fee earning and management – I really enjoy both aspects of the job. I love that I have the freedom to be really open and honest with both candidates and clients and not hampered by crazy KPIs and targets, it means you can have genuine conversations and make sure that people are moving or firms are hiring for the right reasons. I love working in partnership with my clients and really enjoy having the opportunity to help shape their business. I think the really important thing to understand is that each and every person is different – we all have different motivations, qualities and aspirations and I really enjoy helping people get to where they want to be. There is certainly no such thing as ‘one size fits all’ in recruitment which constantly keeps it interesting!

We genuinely do things differently here. Lots of recruitment consultancies wax lyrical about how they are honest and transparent, however at the heart of Sacco Mann’s model is the candidate, the client and the service. As consultants, we’re allowed the freedom to do business in the right manner, which is really important to me personally and a significant reason I’ve been here since 2000. In that time we’ve seen substantial changes in the market, which have required versatility and pragmatism to remain successful. The absolute belief in our model however is a constant and I am extremely proud of our brand and what we stand for. I simply couldn’t work for a business that I didn’t believe in
